labor support doula

Labor is hard work - and you can do it!
Having a dedicated support person, who is present continuously throughout the birth of your child, can help ensure that your birth is the most satisfying experience it can be. Hiring a doula is an act of love and self-respect for you, your partner and your baby!

As a doula, Lora supports moms-to-be and their partners as they go through their unique journey of childbirth. She is DONA (Doulas of North America) trained, has birthed two children of her own, is trained to teach childbirth preparation and is committed to providing emotional, physical and spiritual support to laboring women and their families.

"Your partner is your right hand and your doula is your left"

From the DONA website:
Numerous clinical studies have found that a doula's presence at birth
- tends to result in shorter labors with fewer complications
- reduces negative feelings about one's childbirth experience
- reduces the need for pitocin (a labor-inducing drug),
forceps or vacuum extraction and cesareans
- reduces the mother's request for pain medication and/or epidurals

Research shows parents who receive support can:
- Feel more secure and cared for
- Are more successful in adapting to new family dynamics
- Have greater success with breastfeeding
- Have greater self-confidence
- Have less postpartum depression
- Have lower incidence of abuse
